assigned reading for February 17: Robert Train article

hi again:

these are questions to guide your reading and discussion of the article by Robert Train i sent you on email.

Professor Train teaches Spanish and sociolinguistics at Sonoma State University, which is north of San Francisco. He taught for many years in the public school system.

The article locates standards-based curricula and testing in California and nationally in what Train calls the politics of a "larger culture of standardization." What are the politics of this culture of standardization as he describes them?

Train also speaks about the politics of "standard" language and how this is embedded in the culture of national standards testing and teaching. Comment on this connection Train makes.
